Need someone as soon as possible to work evening shift 11am-7pm. MUST be able to scrub.
In the operating room, technicians will:
MUST HAVE HEAVY ORTHO EXPERIENCE
Under the direction of a RN, the Surgical Technician I works cooperatively with all surgical team members functioning as scrub assistant to the surgeon and assistant surgeon during surgical procedures. The Surgical Technician I is responsible for adhering to all standards of care and for promoting teamwork among coworkers.
1.Assists the circulating nurse in preparing the assigned operating room for surgery.
2.Checks the surgeon’s preference cards before beginning all strategies.
3.Scrubs, gowns, and gloves according to approved techniques.
4.Practices aseptic techniques in opening surgical packs, sutures, and trays.
5.maintains a sterile field throughout each surgical procedure.
6.Performs sponge and needle counts according to policies/ procedures.
7.Demonstrates competency in providing health care services in own job category to the following age groups as applicable to job functions:
Infancy: birth TO 1 year
Toddler: 1 year - 3 years
Pre-School: 3 years - 6 years
School Age: 6 years - 12 years
Adolescent: 12 years - 18 years
Adulthood: 19 years - 45 years
Middle Adult: 45 years - 59 years
Late Adult: 60 years - 79 years
80 years
8.Assists the surgeon and assistant surgeon by passing instruments during surgical procedures.
9.Checks medications used during surgical procedures with the circulating nurse.
10.Reports any breaks in aseptic technique and restores sterile field.
11.Handles and identifies specimens correctly; obtains surgeons' permission before handing specimens off the sterile field.
12.Reports to circulating nurse any drains or packing remaining in patients after surgery.
13.Spplies dressing to wounds and cleanses skin immediately following surgery.
14.Assists in the transfer of patients from the surgical table to gurney.
15.Operates surgical tables, lights, electro-surgical units, and instrumentation systems used during surgical procedures.
16.Assists the circulating nurse in cleaning and preparing the operating room for surgeries to follow.
17.Maintains a safe working environment:
•ensures gurneys are in locked position except when transporting
•ensures side rails are in up position as indicated
•keeps unit free of hazards/clutter
•adheres to infection control guidelines
•disposes of infectious waste properly
18.Maintains confidentiality and uses discretion when discussing patient information.
19.Answers the telephone promptly and courteously and relays calls/messages to the appropriate person in a timely manner.
20.Participates in code situations as directed, e.g. Code Blue, Orange, Green, Gray, Pink, and Red.
21.Assists in maintaining a well functioning unit by:
•removing broken equipment per policy
.alerting appropriate resources of faulty/broken equipment
22.Orients new personnel to department, equipment, and routines.
23.Shows respect and consideration for others.
24.Assists other team members by offering assistance to distribute the workload.
25.Adheres to all Medical Center policies, procedures, and guidelines.
26.Accepts legal responsibilities inherent in actions by exercising judgment and practicing within guidelines allowed.
27.Conforms to dress code.
28.Performs other related work as required or requested.
