Position Summary
The Emergency Department CHARGE RN supports the Mission and Vision of Saint Johns Health Center. This is achieved by demonstrating the ability to effectively manage and prioritize patient care within the Emergency Department. These activities include, but are not limited to, the following:
• Demonstrates reliability and professional accountability.
• Provides care based on scientific principles, and adapts interventions to meet individualized patient needs.
• Demonstrates teamwork and initiative by cooperating and interacting with physicians, physician assistants, interdepartmental staff, and families to maintain communication resulting in positive patient outcomes.
• Performs patient assessment through observation of the patient's physical condition and behavior, and through interpretation of information obtained from the patient, family, and the patient care team.
• Maintains productivity by establishing priorities and practicing cost effective methods in the delivery of care.
Position Accountabilities
A. Complies with hospital, department, and Unit Standards, including but not limited to safety, infection control, quality management, confidentiality, mandatory classes and competencies.
B. Fulfills professional RN role within the scope of practice by:
1. Caring for non-urgent, urgent and emergent patients including, but not limited to:
a. Cardiac Arrests
b. Major and minor trauma
c. Acute neurological disorders and/or acute fluctuations in level of consciousness
d. Acute electrolyte imbalance
e. Lethal dysrhythmias
f. Ischemic heart disease and unstable angina
g. Acute or suspected myocardial infarctions
h. Sepsis
i. Orthopedic Injuries
j. Pediatrics
k. Psychiatric
l. Obstetrics
m. Homeless and indigent population
2. Demonstrates applied knowledge when caring for selected patient populations, including care appropriate to the age of the patient.
3. Identifying and prioritizing problems according to the actual or potential threat to the patient.
4. Planning care in collaboration with the patient, significant others, and health team members.
5. Implementing care by integrating scientific knowledge with technical competency.
6. Evaluating care continuously to assure the relevance of interventions to identified patient problems and needs.
7. Demonstrates responsibility and accountability for own professional practice.
8. Demonstrates accurate and timely documentation of patient care.
C. Practices in a professional, collaborative, and proactive manner in all interactions with patients, visitors, physicians, and staff.
1. Demonstrating flexibility adjusting to changes in patient acuity and workload.
2. Participating in committees and special projects.
3. Maintains positive public relations image, including patient confidentiality, with other employees, physicians, patients and visitors at all times in the ED, in patient rooms, on the phone, in the elevator and in any public place.
4. Identifying risk management issues and communicating potential problems to the appropriate personnel.
5. Performing peer assessment and evaluation.
D. Practices cost effective methods in the delivery or care

3. Demonstrating understanding of overall Unit needs and using downtime to assist others.
