Unit Specific Details:
Level I
30 beds, 4 potential trauma beds. Will be 35 beds and 4 potential trauma beds the facility. 71,400 visits per year.
Must have Trach, home vent and G-Tube experience.
Job Purpose and Summary:
Serves as an advanced beginner registered nurse, conducts patient assessments, participates in the development of the plan of care, implements and evaluates care according to patient specific age and/or developmental needs. Collaborates with other health care team members in the delivery of care. Employee will follow applicable policies and procedures in handling supplies, pharmaceuticals, and equipment.
Duties and Responsibilities
• Demonstrates behaviors in concert with hospital mission, values, policies, & procedures.
• Uses the nursing process to care for the number of patients per unit ratio of varyingly medical complexity. Notes subtle changes in patients' condition and reports changes immediately. Gathers patient data to determine care priorities. Identifies cultural and ethnic issues in planning patient care. Seeks assistance in locating necessary resources and personnel.
• Evaluates patient progress and revises plan of care accordingly. Develops therapeutic relationships with patients and families that enable them to assist in planning and participating in patient care.
• Assesses the discharge needs of patients and families, and assists with the development and communication of discharge plans.
• Keeps unit leadership informed of any difficulties in delivering care. Delegates patient care to other team members as necessary to assure appropriate and continuous care.
• Completes patient documentation according to hospital policies and procedures.
• Demonstrates behaviors that support performance improvement activities.
• Maintains competence and professional development. Maintains license, certification or registration as required. Uses reference materials, trends in nursing, and research to enhance clinical knowledge.
• Performs other duties as requested.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required: Basic knowledge of patient care principles and equipment; hospital patient care policies and procedures. Ability to maintain a calm demeanor and assist in crises and emergencies; prioritize patient care tasks; communicate tactfully, professionally and effectively, verbally and in writing.
Equipment/Machines Used: Ventilators, Monitoring Equipment, BP Machine, IV pumps, Syringe Pumps, BG Monitor, TDS, PC, Oxygen and Aerosols, Pyxis, Medical Gas Cylinders.
Working Conditions/Physical Demands: Heavy physical effort (lift/carry up to 50 lbs). Frequent prolonged standing/walking. Lifts, positions, pushes and/or transfers patients. Lifts supplies and equipment. Occasional reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling, crouching. May be exposed to infections and contagious diseases. Handles emergency or crisis situations. May perform emergency care. Requires judgment/action which could result in death of patient.
