Statement of Purpose

Provides assistance to physicians with patient related procedures, responsible for maintaining a smooth patient flow, and functions as liaison between the physicians, patients, and medical office staff.


Reporting Relationships

Reports to the Administrator.


Primary Duties and Responsibilities
=====================================================================
1.    Assists physicians in performing office procedures and duties related to patient care as requested following Back Office protocol and Daily Duties Outline.

2.    Consistently assesses the patient flow by identifying those areas or problems that are causing interruptions.

3.    Performs duties with speed and accuracy while observing the guidelines set forth by OSHA, HIPAA, DHS, CLIA, EPA and specific contracts.

4.    Appropriately prepares examination rooms for patient visits and maintains rooms in an orderly and clean manner on a daily basis adhering to protocol specified in Back Office Protocol.

5.    Prepares letters and requisitions as follows:  (labs, paps, health questionnaires, prior authorization, radiology authorizations, etc).

6.    Responsible for ensuring supplies and inventory is kept organized.    Exam rooms kept stocked and cleaned prior to shift and at the end of day.

7.    Exhibits tact, courtesy, respect, cooperation and support in every aspect of their job when dealing with staff, patients and physicians adhering to Customer Service Standards.

8.    Gives accurate instructions to patients based upon office policy and direction from physicians.

9.    Maintains a clean and orderly back office and laboratory at all times.

10.    Reviews each patient superbill for completeness and legibility prior to patient check out.  Consistently rectifies inaccuracies and calls them to the Clinical Coordinator’s attention.

11.    Reviews each laboratory requisition for completeness and legibility.

12.    Assists Clinical Team Coordinator as requested.

13.    Other duties assigned that are reasonably associated with the essential functions of the job.

14.    Assist in floating to other teams for coverage as needed.  This is determined by the need of the practice and Administrator.


Knowledge, Skills, and Experience Required
=====================================================================
1.    High School graduate or GED.

2.    Certificate from a medical assistant school.

3.    Knowledge of medical technology, procedural terminology and diagnostic codes.

4.    CPR certified and knowledge of emergency procedures.

5.    Ability to prioritize responsibilities.

6.    Ability to maintain a professional and patient care oriented attitude.

7.    Minimum of one year experience in an internal medicine practice environment.
