POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
Graduate from an AMA approved school of Radiologic Technology Current BCLS certificate. Fluoroscopy License Current CRT and A.R.R.T.
POSITION PURPOSE:
Administers roentgen rays to patients. Operates x-ray equipment, processes images, and prepares patient's exam room, equipment, supplies and contrast media. Provides patient services using imaging modalities.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:
This position reports directly to the Supervisor of his/her shift and has no supervisory functions over fellow technologist unless deemed “charge tech on weekends”.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Instructs and prepares patients for radiographic/fluoroscopic examinations and assists Radiologist during procedures.
Administers oral contrast as needed per exam.
Demonstrates competence in selecting exposure factors, positioning and consistently produces radiographic images of diagnostic quality.
Demonstrates competence and proficiency in operation of all x-ray equipment, CR and Dr Systems.
Practices aseptic technique, isolation and infection control procedures.
Practices radiation safety for self and patient.
Demonstrates competency in the use of Hospital information system, Cerner and Stentor systems.
Reports equipment malfunction to supervisor or lead.
Demonstrates knowledge of hospital and department policies.
Demonstrate Radiation safety for patients, self and other employees in accordance with federal, state and hospital safety standards by using the following: collimation, shielding, proper technical factors, distance as well as asking female patients of child bearing age if they are pregnant.
Maintains patient records and documentation accurately as directed. Insures all exams are correctly ordered and completed. Runs incomplete list and reviews PACS work list for errors at the end of the shift. Reviews correct patient identification on all Radiographic Images as well as correct labeling of body anatomy. Witnesses informed consent on all invasive procedures as well as on IV contrast. Maintains patient confidentiality as appropriate.
Participates in hospital performance improvement activities (BPI projects, task forces, etc.) when warranted.
Completes all assigned procedures in a timely manner and uses time between procedures to department advantage--assisting others, clerical duties, etc.
Maintains a neat work area and keeps assigned area stocked with supplies.

INTERPERSONAL RELATIONSHIPS:
In this position the technologist establishes and maintains a good rapport and cooperative working relationship with all members of the Radiology department, as well as the rest of the Medical Center.

Fast-paced clinical environment with changing priorities. Exposure to ionizing radiation. Moving heavy equipment and patients.
