ROI = Release of Information Specialist
SHIFT: Mon - Fri 8:000 AM - 04:30 PM (Assignment could last 6 months but it will be on a month to month basis)
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Responds to any request for medical information from courts, industrial commissions, arbitrators, copy services, insurance companies, hospital, attorneys, physicians’ offices and federal and state intermediaries by performing clerical duties in accordance with established hospital and department policy and procedures
2. Reviews request for patient information to ensure proper authorization for release of information. Maintains confidentiality of medical records
3. Initiates and updates a record of the status of all requests and subpoenas.
4. Responsible for entering and updating all appropriate information in the Chart Release (Smart Log) system on a timely basis
5. Answers and handles incoming phone calls request pertaining to release of information. Provides timely follow-up to requestors as needed.
6. Copies pertinent medical information from patient records as specified by requestor
7. Handles walk-in requestors needing medical information. Displays positive customer relations in representing Torrance Memorial Medical Center
8. Knowledgeable of federal and state legislation regulating the release of information
9. Represents the hospital by giving depositions in court or other locations as appropriate.
10. Analyzes requests for medical information for compliance with various federal and state agencies; rules and regulations.
11. Demonstrates competency in performance of job duties by maintaining current knowledge of medicolegal information release requirements
12. Performs clerical duties related to the processing of requests in accordance with established department procedures.
13. Participates in hospital performance improvement activities (BPI projects, task forces, etc.) when warranted.
14. Performs routine clerical tasks and other assigned duties.
15. Performs duties in a supportive and cooperative way as to promote a positive work environment according to Hospital Values.
Requirements:
High School Graduate
Experience as medical/legal correspondent
Medical records department experience
PC Literate
Alpha Numeric filing experience
