Short Description:
Insurance Biller I - M-F 6 hours a day. Flexible start time between 8am and 10am. Candidate does not need CPT-4 or ICD-9 coding but it is desired.
Complete Description:
Under direct supervision, reviews patient account files and ensures their accuracy and completeness; determines appropriate billing distribution. Applies late charges; receives and answers billing related inquiries; assists in the preparation of billing reports; prepares and edits billing forms, submits claims by mail or transmits claims by electronic system.
Reporting Relationships:
This position reports directly to the Billing Supervisor.
Major Tasks, Duties and Responsibilities:
Processes electronic and paper billing.
Meets departmental production billing standards.
Refers to Matrix information to accurately process claim.
Reviews patient account files received for discharged accounts to ensure the accuracy and completeness of all documents.
Audits charges to be billed to PPO’s, Contracted and Commercial carriers.
Prepares and reviews UB and 1500 billing forms for accuracy.
Ascertains the availability and accuracy of insurance authorizations.
Ascertains the availability and accuracy of ICD-9 diagnosis and procedure codes.
Enters billing information into computer system after processing claim.
Distributes completed account folders to appropriate Patient Account Representative.
Assists in the preparation of billing activity reports.
Weekly, submits billing production report.
Attend Billing seminars to enhance billing knowledge.

Ensures that privacy and confidentiality rules are followed in accordance with Torrance Memorial Medical Center, State, Federal and HIPAA regulations.
Ensures that hospital policies, 304 Personal Cell Phone Usage, 310 Computer, E-mail and Voice Mail Usage, 313 Dress Code are followed.
Performs other related work as required or requested.
Interpersonal Relationships:
This position interacts with office staff, ancillary departments and employees within the hospital.
Work Environment / Hazards:
Fast paced office environment with many distractions. Rapidly changing priorities. Great deal of work with PC.
