CPT (Phlebotomist)

Short Description:
CPT I-TRAVEL.
Monday - Friday /  05:00 AM - 01:30 PM or 06:00 AM - 02:30 PM with every other weekend.
Also requesting candidate be open to 2nd (01:30 PM start) and 3rd shift (10:00 PM start).

Complete Description:
Under general supervision, collects blood specimens from in and out patients. May perform duties in the out patient area, Microbiology, Chemistry and Hematology.

PHLEBOTOMY:

1.    Properly  identifies, collects and labels blood specimens according to procedures.  Demonstrates competency in using various venipuncture devices.
2.    Prioritizes work according to established department procedure.
3.    Performs indicated clerical and computer-related duties.
4.    Communicates timely and effectively with all nursing personnel, laboratory staff     and section supervisor.
5.    Maintains clean and safe working area, carts and trays. Observes all safety     procedures.
6.    Performs other work within the scope of knowledge and skills-base as required or     requested.
7.    Demonstrates competency in providing health care services in own job category to all age groups.

TECHNICIAN:

8.    Performs waived and moderate complexity laboratory tests and assigned quality control according to laboratory procedure.
9.    Accessions and prepares specimens according to laboratory procedure.
10.    Records temperatures according to procedure as directed.
11.    Labels incoming reagents with received/expiration date and stores appropriately.
12.    Monitors available mechanisms to ensure completion of testing.
13.    Performs and documents preventative maintenance.
14.    Participates in inventory control.
15.    Communicates status of workload and any problems to the CLS’s and Section     Supervisors.
16.    Maintains clean and safe working area and observes all safety procedures.
17.    Performs other duties as assigned.

INTERPERSONAL RELATIONSHIPS:
This position interacts with patients, families, physicians and all other hospital departments and nursing services within the medical center.

WORK ENVIRONMENT/HAZARDS:
Fast-paced environment. Standing and walking most of the shift. Limited time spent working with a computer.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

Phlebotomy Certificate.
